Emirates Business Class Review | A380

Flying Emirates Business Class always seemed like a distant dream to me, out of reach for a mere mortal like myself. Until my latest trip to the Philippines

I have been flying with Emirates 2014 hoping one day (possible in 10 years’ time) I might have accumulated enough sky reward miles to be able to book a Business class ticket.

So you can imagine my utter disbelief and sheer excited when Emirates informed me I have been selected for an upgrade.

I had an upgrade on two of my flights being London to Dubai on the A380 and Cebu to Dubai on the 777. I must say I much preferred business class on the A380.

CHECK-IN

As my business class ticket was an upgrade offer I wasn’t entitled to such luxury as the chauffeur service or Emirates lounge that are offered to their general Business and First-class passengers.

I wasn’t really bothered by not receiving the services. I had already hired the chauffeur services of Dad so I was ready and set.

There is an Emirates check-in counter dedicated to Business & First-Class Passengers (as well as gold and platinum sky rewards member)

I had already used the Emirates app to Check-in and select my seats so it was a quick drop off of my luggage and to grab my tickets.

LOUNGE ACCESS

As I mentioned Unfortunately I didn’t get complimentary Emirates Lounge Access with my upgrade (as offered on general Business and First-class passengers) but I am a member of the Lounge Club so was at least I was able to access the Gatwick No 1s Lounge.

Depending on your tier status with Sky Rewards can you pass for access to the Emirates Lounges. From Silver upwards it will allow you complimentary business class lounge access. For blue tier, you can pay for the access. It’s currently $105 (Dubai) and $100 (Worldwide) for business class access and $210 for First.

ON-BOARD A380

All Business and First Class seats are based on the Upper deck of the A380. I must say that when flying business class with Emirates the A380 defiantly trumped the 777 business class seats.

On board the A380 you can expect an array of amazing features.
First of all the seats are in more of a pod-like position (not completely private) but a lot more secured the 777 business class seats. They turn into a fully flat laying position for you to sleep, you are offered thin matters and a better pillow and cover than that of what is offered in economy.

The seat also includes a little mini bar with a selection of soft drinks, a large TV screen with can be controlled via a pad and better quality headphones.

What also sets the A380 apart from the 777 is the bar access on the upper deck. This is an area you can sit and chill on the couch while enjoying a section of cocktails and little nibble bits.

THE FOOD & DRINK

Even before taking off you are greeted with a lovely glass of champagne (they really spare no expense).

As I said before the A380 Business Class seats also come with its very own mini bar full of soft drinks but all drinks including Cocktails can be requested to your seat as well as orders from the bar.

Being offered a 3-course meal and having it served on a plate was probably one of the best highlights of the flight. The food was so delicious, the portions are a really good size and it all tastes so fresh.

I had recently started eating meat again so I sent to for the duck, with side salad and bread roll to start and the Chicken with vegetable for my main course. They always come round with extra fresh backed rolls during the meal. By the time the cheese board came round for my dessert, I was totally stuffed to the brim.

Emirates do offer “healthy alternatives” as well as meals prepared for food intolerances.  All you have to do is let them know and they are more than happy to accommodate you.

A little while after dinner the flight attendants came round with some lovely ice cream which Adam was gutted he missed as he was asleep. But you don’t have to worry about missing out, there is always an ample supply of nuts, snacks or little light bites in the bar.
